The most raging topic in the Indian society as of today, every news channel has been reporting about the fight against corruption, and infact this very word unites a lot many people in a foreign land. I simply laud the efforts of all the people who have been trying to uproot it from time immemorial, but how much have we succeeded as human beings!
If we try to understand what this word means, "Impairing integrity, virtue or moral principle". I would raise a few questions here, Is there a proper basis to define Integrity, value or moral principle in the modern world? Then are corrupt individuals those people who fall away from the collective mean of integrity of the society as a whole or Is it a much subtler way of venting out one's subconscious envy for a person or a group? What is Integrity and what are moral values, in other words how perfect are we? If you were in a position to grant your kin a few favors, what would you do? Haven't you ever lied or done some deed which pinches you deep in your heart, if you have one? From our childhood, we are taught that we should always try to do the right thing? But did you ever question yourself, is right really right? These are just a few questions that I could frame up in a few minutes, what would be the situation if one has all the time to keep framing up only questions?
I believe corruption starts with 'you' and ends with 'me'. That is how atleast we humans take it. If there is an end for corruption, the dark blanket of corruption would only slowly fade off once we start rising up from our deep slumber internally, once we start understanding that Integrity, virtue and moral principles are more of personal standards and at the end of the day none other than us is going to suffer more if these standards are downgraded. I may not be absolutely right in what I believe but atleast I am confident that I am not downgrading my standards in believing what I believe.

The bigger question is always...whether or not do we realize that anything starting with you is ending in Me..and what happens is a more wider and global situation as every life is connected in an economic scale or in a political scale or even is a social scale for that matter. One thing is sure that it can't be uprooted but it can be just curbed coz we abide by rules and are sometimes scared of punishments. Now the gigantic problem is one billion people cannot realize things at the same time but at least the awareness, the importance of integrity can be passed on to growing generation, like an effortless knowledge, like brushing, like stopping people when they don't do it right. It just has to start somewhere and then can be ever speculate about ourselves in the picture or the world.
ReplyDeleteI just came across this saying in the Gita, "Rules are made for men and not men for rules". But I would say, who makes these rules matters? :-)
ReplyDeletePassing it on is a very potent means of transferring values to the next generation but first we should be well aware of what we are passing on. :-)
Exactly..that's what is the concern always right, whether or not are we aware what we are and what we want to pass on. But there are two things always, one at the individual level and one at the global level. They can never merge but influence each other. Sometimes initiatives taken at the individual level helps in a global scale and thats what most people follow. Its important to stand upright within own-self for others to realize the importance of the scenario and try bringing a change.
